Research on Human Rights of Elderly

Last month , i visited to Rumah Penyayang Hani with my group members to find out the human rights for older people. The Rumah Penyayang Hani have old folks and also children which located in Bangi. Human rights for older people is one of the hottest issue in today’s society. It is indeed vital for us to protect the rights for the older people. All of us have the responsibility to know their rights and protect their rights. The objective of research are to study the status of human rights of older people in Bangi, Malaysia, to assess the perceptions about human rights of older people in Bangi, Malaysia, to identify the responsible factors for dismal status of elderly human reprotection and to suggest or recommend some specific points to policy makers, planners and decision makers so that human rights of older people could be strengthened in future. 

The location of research is at the old folk home in Hulu Langat district, Bangi, namely “Rumah Kebajikan Penyayang Hani”. Moreover, the methodology of research are purposive sampling, data collection and documentary analysis. In order to obtain primary data, questionnaires and interviews are done whereas secondary data are collected by referring to different sources such as books and online articles. 

From the results of research, we found out the the people in Bangi extremely agreed (83%) that the elders should be given concerned by their children. Besides, there are 70% of respondents very agreed that the elders should have more chance to enjoy the time that accompanied by their family members. Next, the health of older people should be taken seriously is strongly agreed by 73% of the respondents. Additionally, there are 64% of respondents very agreed on never abandon the elders to old folks home.  Based on the research done, we also found out several problems faced by the elders when they reached old ages which are psychological problems, emotional problems, isolation, lack of preparation of old aged and low self-esteem. In conclusion, we understand that human rights for the elderly should be given attention to prevent them from facing problem of abandoned and lose of family members.

Beside of doing research, we also cleaned the area of the Rumah Penyayang Hani to ensure all of them can live in a clean  and beautiful place.We cleaned the house by removing the grass, wiping the windows, cleaning the dirty main gate, washing the toilet and swept the floor.
